The 1934 Packards incorporated many improvements and are rightly regarded by owners of classic Packards as the ultimate expression of the marque's development. Quiet, refined and elegant while still being powerful and extremely competent on the road, 1934 was the last series of Packards to employ classic design elements.
This 1934 1104 Super Eight Coupe Roadster is particularly desirable because it has never been restored and was only recently recovered from the dry storage where it had slumbered for some three decades.
It is finished in Green, a repaint that looks like it was done in the Forties when this Packard was still a fairly new, and highly desirable, used car. Its features include wire wheels and dual enclosed sidemounted spares. It is straight, rust-free and sound, the body having some expected nicks and dings but nothing reaching the status of "damage."
The interior is old and tattered and the door panels and top are missing. It might be tempting to call this a "barn find" except that it was dry-stored by a knowledgeable and caring owner years ago as part of a thoughtfully-assembled collection which he never got around to restoring.
It is in great condition the way it is -- aside from the interior which might be a little scratchy and uncomfortable to occupy for any time -- and is clean, dry, solid and sanitary. Some caring attention will make it a worthy entrant in preservation events where its originality and preservation will be appreciated by connoisseurs and casual spectators alike. |
